Mike Giancola, LMFT:
I have been working in educational and community contexts since 1995. Since 2005, I have done health education, counseling and psychotherapy on a daily basis with diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds and in multiple languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese).
My work has led me to an understanding that my own skills are at their best through collaboration. When I collaborate with you in therapy I am working from an assumption that we both bring knowledge and lived experience to resolving problems. I am also working with the idea that you are the expert of your life experience and that through a series of questions about your experience we can come to new understandings.
That said, I hope you take a minute to look over my website and call me with any questions. I take pride in my interview work and hope that it has some therapeutic effect in your life.
Therapy has such a rich and diverse history, with so many ways of having conversations that are intended to be helpful and useful for clients’ lives. The main way I think about my work is as an interviewer. Using Narrative Interviewing and Motivational Interviewing techniques, I hope to create insight and discovery through a series of interviews during therapy sessions that create new dialogues that you may want to share with people who support you.
SD is where I do this interview work – central San Diego, though I see clients from all over San Diego County.
